clock runs, but won't chime?

I purchased my grandfather clock yesterday from a estate sale, it was chiming their, but when I got home, I can't get it too chime at all ?


Is the chime control lever, suppose to be up or down?

It will not hurt the clock to move the lever in either direction. Wait for the chime every 15 minutes or 1/2 hr. depending on the age of the clock, the hammer for the chime could have been tipped away from the bars. Make sure the clock is level.
