Clock will not stay running

by Wayne Hillmann

I received a Edward Meyer Grandfather clock for Christmas. It ran for about a day and then stopped running. Everytime I start it, the clock will run from 10 to 15 minutes and then stop. I have tried leveling it from side to side and then front to back. It will just not continue to run. What can I do?

Did you ever get your clock running again properly? If so how did you do so? My Mom is 86 and think she is having the same problem.

Purchase a new Quality movement and replace the cheap Chinese one that comes with these clocks. Look at the 'Grandmother' clock movements with the shorter pendulum as the Edward Meyer clocks are somewhat shorter that many Grandfathers sold. Hermle makes a nice one.

Edward Meyer wall clock stops running
by: Anonymous

I have had this clock for more than 15 years. From time to time it appears that I would wind it too tight. Then it would run a few minutes and stop. I moved the minute and hour hands myself and let it chime on the hour and half hour. Then it would work properly again. This time, I just can't seem to get it going. I know it is because it was wound too tight. I tried to take the face of the clock off to see if I could fix it. There is one tiny screw in each corner of the clock face which remove easily. However, I do not have a tool to remove the hour and minute hands, so I cant get behind the clock face to see if I can adjust it. I cannot find anyone to fix it. If you can remove the face, it is worth trying to fix it yourself. It doesn't appear to be very complicated. You can't break it any more than it already is. Good luck.

I would give it to someone else, it will always give you trouble. I don't mean to sound mean but they are an inexpensive clock. Get you a Howard Miller..
