I have a Harrington House grandfather clock.

The center weight drops more quickly than the other two.

In addition, it doesn't always chime.

I'm thinking it needs to be serviced as I've had it over 20 years but, still, would like to understand more about it's functions.

Thanks!
Diane

My original question wasn't exactly clear, my clock has been serviced somewhat regularly during the past 20 years. It has not had a complete 'in shop', take apart and put back together again service since I purchased it. When last serviced I was told that it's time was coming so you've confirmed that.

Thanks again for your response!

Hi!

Your clock probably should be cleaned after 20 years of service.

I wouldn't worry too much about irregular weight movement as each weight has a different function and movement occurs according to function.

The movements in most clocks are made by a only few movement makers. You can read about the various makers on this site. I have a Ridgeway clock that has a Hermle movement, for example and that Hermle movement can be found in a wide variety of other branded clocks. you can find the movement number stamped on the back of the movement.
