Emperor Clock, Chimes sound sour!

I have an Emperor Grandfathers Clock, that my Dad made from a kit back in the seventies. It was last serviced over twenty years ago.

Unfortunately there are no clock repair places within 50 miles of here.

I moved last year. After setting up the clock, it worked for quite a long time, then suddenly stopped.

I got it going again, but now the chimes sound very off.

I can't really describe it other than they sound sour.

Like there is a loud echo or more than one chime is being hit when it is chiming.

Could this be because of changes in weather ( I live in Florida ) as I notice it started as soon as the warm weather did, or do you think it is something mechanical?

Sorry, have been pre-occupied with other problems. Did not check back here for awhile.

Thanks for your input!

Sour Chimes

Yes they are rods!
These had sounded bad a long time ago, then suddenly they once again sounded fine. Now they sound sour again. Like I said there is no-one around here. The closest place that repairs this type of clock, is in Tampa. They do not make "house calls". I would have to take the clock there, and that would present other problems. I will probably just disable the chimes as I did in the past.

If they are rods then one or more could be broken or slipped and wont tune to the proper note. You probably need a professional clock repair person. Check Emily's list and google
